Canticle in Honor of Harriet Tubman

Parting the abyss of the Red Sea, God drowned Pharaoh therein, but led Moses across to the wilderness upon dry land, and rained down manna as food for the people of Israel, in that He is mighty.

O Saint of God, intercede in our behalf!

You are a saving hand, O righteous Harriet, and you are a new Moses sent to deliver God’s people from bondage and captivity, raising up all who are drowning in a world of hatred and confusion. Reaching out to you, we ask for guidance in this life of trials and temptations.

O Saint of God, intercede in our behalf!

Wishing to save the world, the Savior of all has sent a brilliant star to shine upon those lost in darkness. We see your life as a light in the night, teaching, enlightening, and guiding us.

O Saint of God, intercede in our behalf!

As a true rebel against the spirit of the world, you defied the laws of the wicked, and led countless slaves to freedom by the power of the Most High. Admiring your courage we ask you to intercede for us!

O Saint of God, intercede in our behalf!

Small in stature were you, O Harriet, but large in heart. You lost not a single slave you guided to freedom. Wherefore you are glorified with Moses and Queen Ester in the heavenly mansions.

O Saint of God, intercede in our behalf!

Taking up arms against the godless confederacy, you guided Colonel James along the river Combahee, by clever disguise you avoided the detection of God’s enemies and by your wisdom you put to shame the confederate armies leaving them confounded and perplexed.

O Saint of God, intercede in our behalf!

In you the “weaker” sex has been shown to be strong, for as a mighty warrior you fought boldly without counting the personal cost, rendering the confederate soldiers cowardice and weak.

O Saint of God, intercede in our behalf!

In humble poverty you lived as a vessel of prayer and a beacon of hope! Curing the sick with the sweet herbs of Mother Earth and ministering to the suffering with the compassion of Heaven, you spent your days in service to the God of Justice, pray that we may go forth and do as you have done, O Righteous Harriet, the noble solider of God!

O Saint of God, intercede in our behalf!

On your deathbed you told your friends and family, in the words of Christ, "I go before you to prepare a place for you." So too prepare a place for us, O  Righteous Harriet, in the mansion of Heaven that we may ever sing the hymns your praise!

O Saint of God, intercede in our behalf!

Now dwelling in the heavenly Zion, you partake in the majestic glory of the Almighty. By your all-powerful prayers, beseech Him to grant us the strength to overcome the trials and tribulations we now face and send down upon us the peace and great mercy of God as we sing these divine praises to you!

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen!
