An Open Hearted Interfaith Community
Monthly Magic
Monthly Magic is a passion project I created to fill a void for queer folks who felt excluded from the mainstream discussions around the topic of religion and spirituality. Many queer folks consider themselves to be spiritual/religious in one way or another. Yet many feel dissatisfied with and excluded by mainstream religious and spiritual communities. Monthly Magic offers a solution to this problem by creating a safe space for people to come together and express their spirituality and learn about religion from a queer perspective.
Monthly Magic is a diverse and inclusive community dedicated to finding the Sacred in the people, places, and things where most religious institutions refuse to look. This group is not affiliated with any religious institution. Nor do we seek to build another. We gather together once a month, virtually and in person, to discuss topics of queer spirituality as well as that of folk wisdom and magic from around the world. Our time together is guided by the Golden Rule “love others as you wish to be loved.”
On April 26, 2023, at the SAGE Lavender Graduation Ceremony, I was honored to receive the Asher Wells LGBTQ+ Advocacy Award for my work in Monthly Magic.
“Kyle pretty much embodies what advocacy work really is. His knowledge, and the way that he just genuinely cares about bettering Southern and the community for queer students.” ~ Brandon Iovene, director of the SAGE Center SCSU
